While tourmaline is one of the world’s most sought after gemstones, chrome tourmaline is even more special because of the trace amounts of chromium and vanadium. These elements make the chrome tourmaline’s color a pure forest green color that resembles fine examples of emerald and tsavorite. Chromium and vanadium give emeralds and tsavorite their distinctive color so the comparison isn’t surprising! If you want to get technical, chrome tourmaline is a variety called chrome dravite from Africa and tsavorite garnet is found in the same mining locations. The forest green color is the main color of a chrome tourmaline with secondary colors of yellow and blue.
