Malachite Specimen



Malachite is a green copper carbonate hydroxide mineral with a chemical composition of Cu2(CO3)(OH)2 and one of the first ores used to produce copper. It has been known and used in Egypt for over 3,000 years and used by the Greeks and Romans as a pigment, jewelry, ornaments, and eyeshadow. This specimen shows malachite’s botryoidal habit with light crystal formations.

  • Source: While the exact source for this specimen is not known, most malachite comes from the Democratic Republic of the Congo with smaller amounts are produced in Australia, Chile, France, and Arizona.
