"The Venerable" - Old European Cut Diamond Vintage Ring in Platinum
Old European Cut Diamonds are treasured because “they just don’t make ‘em like this anymore!” Old Euros (also known as OEC) are a European cutting style popular from 1890 to 1930. The cutting style is very similar to today’s Round Brillant (aka RBC) except the crown, the top part you see immediately, is very tall and the triangle pavilion (bottom pointy part) facets are shorter than a traditional RBC.
So what, right? Well, Old Euros have more of the “Fire” or dispersion, meaning the stone sparkles more colors while the newer Round Brilliants display more “brilliance” or the black versus white sparkle (hence the name Round Brilliant Cut). Old Euros were cut by hand and most modern round brilliants are cut by machines, so if you’re a purist, an Old Euro may be a good choice for you. If you’re a fan of scarcity and rarity, an Old European Diamond may be a great choice as there are very few available on the market, and the ones that are on the market are usually chipped or very worn as they’re old diamonds that have lived a long-loved life.
This 0.44ct Old European Cut Diamond is sitting pretty in this vintage platinum ring with 14 small sparkling diamonds totalling 0.10 carat. If you love vintage authenticity, The Venerable is a perfect fit. Something “venerable” commands a great deal of respect, especially because of age, wisdom, or character which is a perfect name for an old hand-cut diamond in a mounting that looks handmade which is made of platinum, the finest metal for all jewelry. Classic. Beautiful. Perfect.
