Kyanite
Details
Found mainly in metamorphic settings as schists and gneisses, Kyanite forms from the high-pressure alteration of clay minerals. Kyanite is unique in that it holds its strength at high temperatures and can expand significantly when heated, unlike other minerals. Its high refractory strength makes Kyanite an important mineral in the automotive/railroad industry. Also useful in the making of ceramics and porcelain. Kyanite can be found throughout the world; Switzerland, Brazil, Russia, Nepal, Kenya, Tanzania, and the US supply Kyanite of varying hues of blue from light blue to indigo. It is an important collector’s mineral due to its beautiful color and ease of obtaining. With intense shades of blue, well-formed large, long, and slender bladed crystals, Kyanite is a sought after mineral. Stemming from the Greek word “cyanos”, meaning deep blue, Kyanite’s color attracts many worldwide. Also known as Rhaeticide, Cyanite, and Disthene (meaning two strengths). Other unique properties include Kyanite’s anisotropism; exhibiting different hardnesses on the perpendicular axis. Kyanite as a gemstone is exotic and rare, high-quality, and nicely colored. It can be cut into attractive cabochons and faceted stones, to be used as rings and pendants. Kyanite gemstones can be challenging to cut due to its anisotropism and skilled cutters are needed to work with these stones. Some Kyanite gemstones are pleochroic, appearing to be different colors when viewed from different directions.

Kyanite’s ability to withstand high pressures and temperatures gives this mineral its strength across dimensions. It has a high vibration that one can feel. Kyanite acts as a universal bridge from the soul outwards. A crystal of connection, this mineral can aid in any communication adversities. Kyanite is only one of two minerals on the planet that neither accumulates nor retains negative energy. It never needs cleansing and can be used to cleanse other crystals. This mineral will assist in any disagreement or dispute as its color blue resonates with the throat chakra. It promotes good communication between what one feels inwards and how to express themselves properly outwards. It restores the Qi to the physical body and promotes a calming effect like that of the sea; purity, quiet strength, stillness, and the power of regeneration and rebirth. In its more indigo color spectrum, this mineral acts on the 5th chakra, the brow or third eye chakra, expanding psychic awareness on all levels. This mineral is a great tool for transitioning deep into meditative states. It is a Barrier Strengthener, which are silicate crystals that have a triclinic crystalline structure. This structure gives the crystals its strength in all directions. Barrier Strengtheners are used as protective talismans, keeping undesirable elements away.
