Morganite

Details

First discovered in Madagascar in 1910 by Tiffany and Company’s chief gemologist, George Kunz, and named in honor of financier and avid gem collector JP Morgan, Morganite is fairly new on the scene in terms of gemstones. Gaining in popularity, this gem is now one of the most sought after for placement in engagement rings because of its hardness, durability, and lack of inclusions and fractures. Large, flawless crystals have been found and are often faceted into gemstone cuts, however beautiful specimens in the rough have been discovered as well and sit gracefully in collections. A variety of Beryl, Morganite gains its orange, pink hue from the trace amounts of Manganese. Morganite is a pleochroic gem meaning different colors are exhibited when viewed from different angles. Today, most of the Morganite is mined out of Brazil, but commercial deposits have been found in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Brazil, Madagascar, Namibia, Thailand, Mozambique, and the US (California and Maine). Other names for Morganite are Cesium Beryl, Pink Beryl, Pink Emerald, and Rose Beryl.

Its hardness and durability reflect its powers and can give the wearer a renewed strength of self. It can also reignite the flame of flailing relationships and draw in new love.
