Lightning Ridge is a town in north-western New South Wales, Australia near the southern border of Queensland. Opal mining is the main source of income for the town. According to an Aboriginal legend, a huge wheel of fire fell to Earth and sprayed the Lightning Ridge countryside with the brilliant opals. The designer, John Ford, travels to Lightning Ridge to procure the opals himself and create these amazing one of a kind opal jewelry pieces.
